Dedicated hosting company The Planet’s data center explodes, causing service interruption
Dedicated hosting company The Planet’s H1 data center in Houston, Texas, exploded on Saturday. Approximately 9,000 servers and 7,500 customers were affected.
The explosion broke down three walls of electrical equipment room. Along with the fire, it damaged the underground cabling that supplies power for the first floor of the facility. Neither injuries, nor any server damage were reported. The company has kept in touch with its customers via its forum and customer portal.
After officials inspection, company restored power to the facility. It immediately turned on the generators to supply power on the second floor. 90% of the second floor servers were back on after more than 40 hours of troubleshooting. Technicians tries to manually restore the remaining 10%, as well as restore power to the first floor. Many customer still feels upset by the period of time that recovery process took, leaving comments on forums.
